The Best Titles Come From Within

Sometimes an idea for a movie comes from a great title. Other times you think that you have a great title that fits your story. It’s catchy, it’s memorable, it’s relevant, but then you get deep into the writing. You learn who the characters are, and what drives them. After countless days, weeks and months of character development, I have a new title for my first screenplay.

It turns out that I had the title all along. It’s a domain name that I had registered some time ago with no intentions on using it for anything in particular. It was just a cool name, and I figured it would make a good web site some day. I wasn’t sure what kind of web site. It was a phrase that I used to describe a feeling, or a state of emotion. It turns out that one of my characters uses this phrase. Not only does the character use the phrase, I figured out that this state of emotion is the underlying theme of the story. None of this was planned. I never thought about it until I needed some dialogue, and the character just handed it to me.
